This first part of The Nightborn duet had me hooked from the start. With the different factions of vampires fighting for political power and the trials that will grant a wish from the goddess Nyaxia herself to the winner.
And of course the romance brewing between a human girl raised by the vampire king and a vampire from the enemy faction is absolutely captivating.
And the ending...no words.
After the ending of the first book you just want to continue right away with this gripping duology.
How will Oraya and Rhain deal with the aftermath of everything that happened in the trials? The political chess gets even more intense and big decisions have to be made, personal ones and for the kingdom.
Loved this duology and cannot wait for the other two to follow.
A wonderful continuation of "Powerless" that ramps up the anticipation for "Fearless" (April 2025). A lot has happened and changed in Ilya since the ending of the trials. Reckless takes you out of Ilya and into the desert and focuses on the very complicated dynamic between Pae and Kai. They will be at each other´s throats constantly and this time in a less playful way than when they first met.
How will they be able to find common ground again after everything that happened?
In a world of "Elites" and "Ordinaries", where the Elites are superior in every way, could one Ordinary change the way of life for all of those that have been banned and murdered in the Kingdom of Ilya?
The next trials are going to be different than all that came before, because Kai, the second son of the King and an Elite, needs to prove himself to the people of Ilya and show that he is worthy to be the next "Enforcer". Meanwhile Paedyn, an Ordinary from the Slums, gets dragged into the trials and has only one goal: survive.
But things quickly get more complicated as the chemistry between Kai and Paedyn grows (and the banter between those two should not be missed).
A wonderful new world of fantasy for all lovers of "The Hunger Games" and "Crowns of Nyaxia".
A captivating book about the messy reality of being in your twenties: great friendships, complicated relationships and crushes on unavailable people.
A true gem with chaotic relatable characters that will stay with you.
Absolutely loved it!
In this debut novel Kaliane Bradley manages to portray the expats that were stolen from across time (1645, 1665, 1793, 1847 & 1916) in a real and relatable way.
Through the questions and inquiries the expats have while acclimatizing to the 21st century, Bradley manages to address a multitude of topics relevant to the current political situation such as racism, climate change, feminism, crimes against humanity, complicity, etc.
Mix in a little bit of romance and spy novel and you have an intelligently written novel that stands out in its uniqueness.
A raw and honest story about women that served in the Vietnam War. How no one ever seemed to be aware that there even were women in 'Nam. This book shows the horrors, camaraderie, friendships and the trauma that came out of serving in this war.
This story is heartbreaking, eye opening, gut wrenching, necessary and beautiful all at the same time and had me in tears several times.
An intriguing read that leads you into the world of publishing and describes how quickly authors can lose relevance. The whole story shines with ambivalence in its characters, situations and moral questions.
Our missing hearts is a dystopian story about love, loss and family.
After the poetry books of Bird's mother were banned in the wake of the new laws that aim to protect the "american culture", Bird and his father are forced to live a quiet life.
One day a mysterious letter addressed to Bird encourages him to leave on a wild scavenger hunt in search of his mother.
Celeste Ng managed to create the perfect atmosphere for this dystopian family story.
At the age of 8, Alice begins to see other people's emotions in the form of colourful auras surrounding them. As we follow Alice on her life's journey it is clear that her ability can be a gift and a curse.
I applaud Ahern's capability to take you through the whole spectrum of emotions and the brilliant character building she did with Alice.

A beautifully descriptive debut novel by Shelly Read with characters that are wonderfully drawn, a story that pulls you in and stays with you afterwards.
Meredith Maggs has not left her home in over three years. Groceries come from the Tesco delivery man, her best friend Sadie visits with her two kids, her cat Fred keeps her company and she works remotely from home. An exploration of the impact of social media, female friendship, cancel culture, consent and the #metoo movement.
A fascinating read with complex characters that puts the way we consume social media in perspective.
An absolute joy to follow Elizabeth Zott along, as she fights for what she believes in even if the times she lives in are not as progressive yet. As she goes through all the ups and downs life has to offer you cannot help but root for this unforgettable main character.
An unputdownable book about two boys, Gaunt and Ellwood, that have known each other since their days at Preshute boarding school. They are both in love with each other but do not know about the other's affections. As WWI rolls in, their idyllic days in the English countryside come to an abrupt end. How will life in the trenches change the lives of these two young men?
A gut wrenching, heartbreaking and beautiful debut novel by Alice Winn that I can only recommend.
Follow the stories of Altha (1619), Violet (1942) and Kate (2019), all three victimized, controlled and oppressed by men in their lives.
In Weyward cottage they find strength and comfort to fight for the lives they deserve.
Although the storylines never cross, the author manages to connect them through shared struggles and family history.
A lot of nature, a little bit of witchcraft and three courageous women make for a very compelling read.
Inspired by historical figure Lucrezia de Medici, this is a story about the role of a woman in the 16th century, especially a woman married to a man of power and wealth. Follow Lucrezia's journey from a young child sheltered in the palace of Florence to when she is 17 and about to be murdered by her own husband, the Duke of Ferrara.
Maggie O'Farrell brilliantly paints the time of the16th century, the picturesque landscape of Italy and masterfully reimagines the life of Lucrezia (about which historically not much is known).
Greta Fernsby is a woman in her 90's with a sharp wit, but she cannot peacefully look back at her life...
A fascinating story about how Greta lives all her life with the guilt over what she witnessed in WWII and the question if she should be held accountable for her complacency as a child.
Find out what happened to Greta after "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas".
Carrie Soto is a character with many layers and although her nicknames in professional tennis are the "Balttleaxe" and the "Bitch", as a reader you can see behind the facade and accompany Carrie on her professional comeback and her personal flourish.

Only TJR could bring me to read a sports novel and absolutely love it.
A story about friendship, love and video games.
Sam and Sadie first meet in a hospital room where they bond over Super Mario. Over the next two decades they start creating their own games together, but life is not as straightforward as video games in the late 80?s and forces Sadie and Sam to either come closer or drift apart.
Will their friendship last the test of time or even turn into something more?
Young Mungo is a gut wrenching, beautifully written book about a dangerous love between a catholic and a protestant.
Although Mungo has a rather gentle, even nïve disposition, he still knows the suffering and violence that can occur on the streets of Glasgow, especially with his brother as a gang leader.
Two timelines describe how it came to this "forbidden" love and the aftermath of Mungo's family finding out.
One cannot help but suffer and feel deeply with Mungo on his journey of love, loss and discovery.
The rise and fall of a rock band in the 70's, told in an interview-style book which allows the reader to get multiple perspectives on the same event immediately.
A captivating story about the rise to fame, friendship, love, addiction and rock'n'roll that I absolutely loved.
A young musician with a troubled past, is trying to make it in Nashville and because luck seems to be on her side this time around, she gets unexpected help from one of country music's biggest stars. All her dreams seem within reach but will her past come back to haunt her?
Spent one night with the Riva siblings, even though they are Mick Riva's (the famous singer you might remember from "The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo") children they had to grow up the hard way, but this fateful night will change all of their lives.
Taylor Jenkins Reid brings us an absolute pageturner where you fall in love with her amazingly described characters.
